ATC-7 Seismic Short Course – University of Southampton

7th September 2015

ATC-7 Students from SOES University of Southampton – Liam Heeley, Jamie Kelly, Aisling O’kane, Harry Eady, Ben Gilbert and Dan Ellis along with Max Nott-Bower (Cardiff University)

Avalon Sciences were pleased to welcome back for the third year running a select group of Geology and Geophysics Recent Graduates & Undergraduates from Southampton University department of Ocean & Earth Science (SOES) who were invited to join Avalon for a technical 1 day seismic short-course.

The students were tasked with seismic data acquisition theory exercises, with the opportunity to shoot a real Vertical Seismic Profile (VSP) using Avalon’s own latest downhole geophone technology.

The students were then able to process and interpret the data and acquire and introductory appreciation for field seismic exploration techniques.

This course is targeted at undergraduate Geoscience students who wish to gain an appraisal of the role of seismic exploration within the Oil and Gas E&P industry.

The course has specific focus on introducing borehole seismic acquisition and processing fundamentals and will give the trainees an opportunity to shoot a real borehole seismic survey using advanced industry approved technology.
