ASL Geoscientist Will Wills (2nd from left) with SOES Geophysicist Kyle Gardener and Geologists Michael Sims, Alex Tran, Vanessa Phan and Naomi Smith.

A select group of Geology and Geophysics Undergraduates from the School of Ocean & Earth Science (SOES), University of Southampton were invited to join Avalon for a technical 1 day seismic shortcourse.

Seismic Profile (VSP) survey suign land air gun seismic source.

Students preparing Vertical Seismic Profile (VSP) survey in ASL training well using land air gun seismic source.

The students were tasked with seismic data acquisition theory exercises, with the opportunity to shoot a real borehole seismic survey (VSP) using Avalon’s own latest downhole geophone technology.

The students were then able to process and interpret the data and acquire and introductory appreciation for field seismic exploration techniques.

The students were tasked with seismic theory and practical acquisition and dataprocessing methods.
