Feature Page - AST

New downhole Sparker Tool (AST) has just undergone very successful tests in Texas, July 2010!

The Advanced Sparker Tool (AST) has been developed to produce a high energy, repeatable down hole seismic source. Primary use of the AST would be with seismic sensors deployed in an adjacent well or wells to provide cross well imaging or sensor orientation.  When the AST is deployed with the Geochain system it will be possible to provide single well imaging. With a low power requirement of a 100W and a high energy output of a 1000J the AST is a versatile downhole seismic source that can be deployed in various configurations.

Hostile wells: meeting the borehole seismic challenge

William Wills discusses some of the basic exploration challenges faced with characterising deep reservoirs in such a high risk, high cost environment, and the requirements of downhole seismic tools to overcome such issues.
